WELCOME TO THE SUMMER ISSUE OF WELL. Bob Dylan once said, "He not busy being born is busy dying." Speakwell is busy being born. We are responding to the growing interest in people making active lifestyle choices as part of preventive medicine and high level wellness, by expanding our staff. The 2 new members will be familiar to past readers of 'Well'. One is Peter Mason, a former teacher, whom some of you might know for his role in creating the opportunity for a wheelchair bound grade 12 student with cerebral palsy to get to the top of one of Vancouver Island's highest peaks. [see this Well article »]
As a fundraiser Peter is unstoppable and he raised over a million dollars to create a climbing center at his school which made the front page of Canada's national magazine McLeans. In addition to his work as a presenter Peter will specialize and concentrate his efforts on pedometer development, sales and programs. With his knowledge of the school environment Peter will be helping many school districts develop programs to satisfy the daily physical activity requirements that we are happy to see being mandated in many provinces and states.
The other new full time member is Rob Dyke whose pedigree includes work as a teacher and coach and ambassador for the Red Cross. He is a creative thinker and unique speaker. His extraordinary physical resume includes swimming the 1300k around Vancouver Island [see this Well article »] which, likely, will never be repeated, multiple visits to Everest and some Iron Man triathlons to mention just a few. Rob will be responsible for providing speakers to deliver our message of personal and professional high level wellness.
Our beloved Bev Mason whom many of you know as the telephone voice of Speakwell for the past 6 years has left to join her partner in developing his business venture, she will be much missed. Bev is being replaced by Joan McCorry who possesses all the important qualities for anyone who works with us. She is enthusiastic, multi-talented, is a good communicator and has a fine sense of humor. Look for some of Joan's photography in future editions of 'Well'.
Those of us at Speakwell trust you have had an energizing spring and now look forward to, as Nat King Cole sang it:
Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer Those days of soda and pretzels and beer
Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer Dust off the sun and moon and sing a song of cheer
No comment about the soda, pretzels and beer at this point.
Please enjoy our summer issue of WELL and, as always, we appreciate your willingness to forward a copy/link to friends who might be interested in reading it. The spring edition ended up in Australia, England, India, and many parts of the US and Canada. Thank you to the many of you who shared our WELL newsletter with friends! :: Dr. Martin Collis
