A Tenuous Connection to Olympic Glory at the Speakwell Games Night

by Martin Collis, PhD

We try to practice what we preach at Speakwell, we swim and jog, play plenty of table tennis and have fun. Recently we had a bonding bash for a bunch of friends some of whom have more than a passing interest in the Sydney Olympics.

Boccie Champions of the night were Martin Collis and Roger Skillings. Roger is President and CEO of Pacific Sport, which is the National Training Center for a number of Canadian sports. Roger was delighted when Pacific Sport and Victoria based triathlon Simon Whitfield won gold on the first day of the games. Yea Simon!

John Nash

John Nash. John is a bit rusty at ping-pong, but a fine soccer player. He was recently in Sydney watching his son Stephen captain the Canadian Men's Olympic Basketball Team. Stephen is a real inspiration who, despite a $36 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA, is happy to practice and play with our somewhat under funded National program, and has been known to dip into his own pocket to make the team's life a little more comfortable. Stunning Mate!
